Trim on Doors and Wall

Postby Roberto » Sun Nov 06, 2005 9:22 pm

Hello Again,
Could someone sketch or refer me to drawings on how the aluminum door trim is assembled on a door and wall (3/4 ply & 3/4 insulation & 1/8 luan type construction) , including the "T" molding and weather seal..
I'm realy not this thick headed, but I can't conceptulize how many different peices of aluminum trim are used.

Thanls,
Bob :(

Bob,

So, if I understand you correctly, your door is 1 and 5/8" thick. If so, cut strips of aluminum of whatever you used on your sides to about 1 and 1/4 or 1 and 1/2" wide and wrap the edge of the door all the way around. Then apply the T molding on the outside and trim the inside with angle aluminum. Sorry, I don't have any good pics of mine.

Toypusher, I understand wraping the in side door frame with aluminum/annealed. However, what is the best method for securing the wrap? Henrys and those screw-type aluminum nails? Those that I am aware of are the type used to tack up insulative trim around home entry doors.

I used Henry's to stick the stuff in place and then put the trim in place and that was screwed about every 6" or so! Use flathead SS screws that are countersunk. #6 x 3/4" work well. A 1/4" hole will work to 'countesink' the #6 screws.
