What glue has most gooo ? European question.

Posted the question elsewhere as not everyone looks everywhere.

I am in the process of thinking about the ultimate goal.......

Glueing the ally sheet down on the ply.

What in your experience and annecdotally is the best glue, or compromise ??

I am planning to screw the sheets to the leading and trailing edges of the body and also the hatch, into the hardwood battens I have prepared, as well as into the fillets on the side edges of course, and then covering with some strip (yet to find something suitable.

Then the ally sheeting needs glueing and fixing to the ply sheets.... Right ?

I was wondering if Sikaflex 221 would be the best option to ensure a life long bond and waterproofing qualities.

I am sure there was a thread somewhere on one of the forums showing the way the guy did it all, but cannot find that one.

Remember I am in England, so European or British glues are going to be more accessable to me.

Greetings from Finland. I use the Sikaflex 221 and yes it gives a good bond. Good for other uses and purposes as well. Expensive here but well worth it.

Another Sikaflex is the 291 Marine which Ive used that is also very good. Here,s the details for it. (Used for light duty bonding).

My friend Dave in Germany has odered me 12 tubes from Ebay.de that should do the job then.

Here in the UK the best adhesive is Sikaflex 512. Used in the manufacture of caravans. I have used it for some time and when its stuck it's stuck!

You certainly are correct. If you want somthing that will never come off then use it.. Ive used it too. But if you want to do some repairs later on. Then ouch. Have fun. Meaning getting anything off thats adhered to it. Its basically a one time chance too to get whatever your gluing in its right position or place.

The 512 also reduces the amount of screws needed. So it is strong stuff. This is used mainly where additional strength is needed.

The shrinkage percentage is only 2 percent on the 512 as where the 221 has a shrinkage percentage of about 10%

Its a hybrid polyurethane compound. So the amount of humidity plays a big factor in adhering strength as well.
