Tomorrow, without a brain in my head, I will start buyijng parts for CC squared..... I'll be off to my not-so-local h/f store, 20% coupon in hand, to purhcase another attractively priced 1,800# trailer. I have no where to store it, I won't need it for at least 3 months, but having it will be an incentive to keep going. Completion time is slated for mid summer.
CC2 will not have a perimeter frame, but will have a susension frame, rectangular in shape, The rectangle will be made from supplied trailer parts, laid flat. The bottom of the trailer above the rectangle will be flat with nothing exposed.
The tongue probably be made from excess trailer pieces and will be be V shaped, starting at the ball mount, and each leg of the V ending next to the front spring pad... the mini-frame, essentially, will be an inverted V with a rectangular box at the bottom.
The 1800 pound has a neat feature that the suspension is mounted on a piece of angle iron that can be moved back and forth along the box.... The plan is to build the trailer on casters, find the c/g, and finish up the V portion of the minii-frame after I determine where the tear will be bolted to suspension box. But, the idea is to have it so close to where it belongs it will not have to be moved....
The reason for building it is lighter weight, better aerodynamics, better weight distribution, more functional layout and lack of common sense..... half way through I'll be posting a note: "what was I thinking?"
I'll post pics as I progress, but probably nothing for at least a month.. I have an ealy 2006 to FL plannend and suspect the heavy lifting will start in early March.....
