ISO Board Lightweight Teardrop - The Build

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Back to work...

Hi all,

Once winter came last year, I stopped work on my foam teardrop with expanding roof. I should have resumed in March, but didn't until June. So, I have assembled the body on the trailer and am now reworking my design for raising the roof. I will post recent pics of the progress. My new roof lift idea should work.

Below are pics from the end of last year. More are in my gallery. Recent pics are on their way.

Nice to see you are making some progress – I hope it works out well and I like the concept.

Looking good. I will be interested in seeing how much this ultimately weighs. It seems like most teardrops are built like tanks and not like aircraft, which they could be.
One alternate idea would be to use foil faced ISO board and glue Filon or aluminum to it.

Hi all... Thanks for your comments. As promised, I snapped a few quick shots of the buid so far.

Here is the teardrop with the side walls, interior front wall and floor attached to the trailer. The roof will be attached to the luan-shell sidewalls (driver side shown here). When the roof is lifted, the luan-shell will become the walls of the upper expansion.

Image

Here is a view through the front wall opening. This opening is for a future shower/toilet expansion. Support springs and window holes are visible. The shape of the front is seen here. This 3-edged dome will raise up with the roof and side shell.

Image

And finally, a view of the interior through the rear galley. The arrow points to one of the support springs that, when the roof/shell is raised, will lock into a straight vertical position, adding support. More braces can then be added for stability.

Image

Well, there it is thus far. Not as pretty as I hoped. So much to do yet. Probably, would have done a thousand things differently, but I am forging ahead again.

Thanks... Tommy
