We had automotive scissor jacks welded onto the frame of the Boler we used to have. We had them welded on right-side up (unlike the photo above). I found them VERY nice to use. Didn't have to fiddle around dragging portable jacks around, which was nice. Also - installed right-side-up, the base of the jacks were VERY large and never sank into the ground (well, at the dunes they did slightly, but those sites were half loose sand - not soil at all). Probably the handiest element of it though was they could actually take weight. The stabilizer jacks pictured above just do that, they can't be used to level the trailer. The automotive jacks could do that easily. I liked not having to mess around with shoving ramps under the tires. Gives you many more options for where to stick the trailer at the site that way too.

Just a thought, but a $19 each on sale, the HF tounge jacks could be modfied to fit each rear corner, removable as well, then with three of them you could leval in all directions, may want to remove the wheels though, might prevent rocking and rolling ;)

This is what I just finished installing on my frame.

They were good quality and worked just fine for me.

The Atwoods or the Fultons? I was planning on the Atwoods.

The Atwoods support 1000 lbs vs 250 lbs for the Fultons. I think If I decided to buy these instead of the stacker stands, I'd get the Atwoods.

It says the Fultons Stabilize 300 lbs each jack, and lift 250 lbs each jack, whereas the Atwoods support up to 1000 lbs.
Are the Atwoods a 1000 lbs each, or 1000 lbs a pair, whereas the Fultons would be 600 lbs per pair.

Is this a play on words?

For the same price, you might as well get the Atwoods for the extra capacity.

Do you think the Fultons have a better/easiet lift system? They look a bit cooler.

Also, I don't have a clue how these things go on. I have no plans to weld, so do I have to drill more of those stupid holes?

Ira,

I bought and installed the Fultons, they were out of Atwood at the time. The rear cross member has one hole drilled already. I enlarged it, then drilled a second hole. Forget the exact size right now, just got a bolt and nylock that fit best. In fact I think the installation directions tell you the size to use. No welding needed.

Looks easy enough. Will probably be the last thing I do, though.

Most TDs won't weigh over a 1000 lbs, and besides, part of the weight will remain on your axle unless you crank up the stabilizer jacks to it off the axle. I would only lift it enough to level and keep it from bouncing up and down (take that any way you want :D ).

On the few times out with mine (new teardrop) I carried some jack stands. I found that I have not needed them. Is it that mine doesn't move around much because of the 3500# axle, tongue weight or am I missing something?

Maybe I should rethink this.

Why does everyone have/use stabilizers?

Gerdo,

I use a pair of RV type jack stands in the rear for leveling and stabilization.
