axle location

I have been lurking here for about a month and have decided to begin construction on a stretched/modified benroy(or maybe you will have another name for this).

I have put plywood skins on both sides, and a friend from work is going to help me this week in modifying the HF trailer to make it 11 feet long and welding it all together. I plan to over hang the sides by 7 inches to reach a 5 foot width simular to what was done on the Zephyr TT.

My axle question is regarding the location from the rear on the HF trailer. I have played with Andrew's spreadsheet using 132" long, 40" tongue and some extra cabin weight to equal 124# on hitch at axle 44" from the rear. I realize that the HF axle carrier is built in such a way that I can slide its position on the rails, then re-drill/weld into place. With my floor overhanging the rails and over the wheel, I want to place the 2x4 floor joists away from the potential axle/wheel.

So the real question is how certain is the 44" number from Andrew's spreadsheet? If I weigh the hitch and need to move the axle, how far would be enough? 10 inches both front/rear of the axle?

Thanks,

Lee

clems...welcome to the board...Andrews work is top notch and the best you can do as to locating the axle beforehand...10" of adjustment should give you enough to bring any discrepancies in line...and I see you already have the picture thing down...good, 'cause we do luv de pics :D

No, not me, but I wish I could play the banjo, or better yet, STOP the rain! For our dry time of the year, its really wet, which is slowing down progress, which makes making the gathering at Little Talbot in Feb. more of a pipe dream.
