It was also rated for 90 psi and I didn't even have the air pressure that high.

...a little lite machine oil squirted into the air intake can do wonders for longevity and usage of many such air tools...however the specifics of why yours failed are unknowable to me and possible as simple as statistical failure of a cheap tool...hunos..........................
