leaking roof?

Heavy rains here in Ma. last past few days. My Teardrop roof proved to be not leakproof. How can I find out where the water is entering?

99.9 % of the time it is the galley hinge. Several of us have bloused over the actual hinge with a rubber membrane to stop the intrusion.




Power vents would be the next most likely area. If you must , remove and reinstall using a liberal amount of plumbers putty or 100 % silicone to eliminate the possibility of water entry.

Door and window tops can allow water into the inside but you will simply experience a little run of water down the side wall. A diverter cap is made to protect these areas. (looks kinda like a tiny metal awning)

Where are you experiencing the drip ?, what is it near ? Is this a commercial unit or a home built ?

Where the drip exits inside is not always a dead giveaway because it can run between the outer roof and the inner ceiling making traceing the culprit a bit tough.

Get out the water hose and spray only one area each day to eliminate the area or find it. If you spray them all you still may not know which one is the actual leak.

How can I find out where the water is entering?

Having someone run a garden hose over the roof while you are inside with a flashlight is a good start.

You'll want to inspect every place you cut a hole, installed a screw, and joined two pieces.

Some examples are; doors, windows, edge trim, roof vent, door/hatch hinges, outside light fixtures, door catches, roof racks, etc.

When using the water hose, start with one side, or one end, to narrow down the general location.
