As for the micro-balloons, guys, they worked great! You were right: that was the way to go. I've about had all the sanding I can take for this lifetime, but that's part of the process. I just finished applying the last, (4th), coat of epoxy to the outer shell. A little more touch up here and there and it should be ready to paint next weekend.

Thank you all for all your help. I really do appreciate it.

Have a great weekend.

Sounds great,
Your last fill coat should bury all the hills and valleys. After final sanding, it should be smooth. Remember, any surface imperfections will telegraph through the paint.

Also, I personally never put on final finish, either varnish or paint till I have waited at least a month for the epoxy to fully cure. That's just me, others put finishes on much sooner. However I have heard of several horror stories on boats.

Another word of caution, check the compatibility of your paint with the epoxy. Not all varnishes or paints work on epoxy. I would test first.

Can't wait to see the finished tear.
