Question that I need an Idea on.

I have a question for you folks. Along with the kit came a roof rack which to us here looks like a VW Beetle model. Even so its unique and was wondering if any of you have ideas as to how I can widen the leg area to be able to set it up on the ceiling better and more securely.

It just doesnt sit correctly. I was thinking it could be widened? to hookup onto the edge moulding??

Should I take it to a shop where the legs can be extended via bending and adding plates to it or?

Here is a pic of it

CF ... Is it mounted to a crossmember (s) ??? That should be secure eh ? A shop will make it right ... could be "involved" (pricy) ... :o
I think it looks Fine !!!

Heikki,

Personally, I do not like the look as it is right now. If I was doing a roof rack, I would want it to be much lower to the roof of the tear and have it present a much lower profile. And yes, I do think that it at a minimum needs to be move more to the front of the tear to sit in a 'balanced' position.

Heikki,

My opinion...

Cut it up and rebuild it to fit, or use it for ideas and build one that looks like it belongs.
The legs should be vertical, or near vertical.
Splayed out, it will look like you tried to stretch a rack that was too small.
There should only be 2-4" of clearance from the top of the tear, to the bottom of the rack.
The curve of the rack frame should match the roof.
And finally, when finished, you should be able to put at least a couple hundred pounds on it without fear of damage to the rack or the roof.

Cut the legs off, attach it to Grants roof rack and position to taste.

My thought would be to start from scratch and use it as a guideline, and find out if it is from a VW, then sell it to a VW collector.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.
