Screen Spline for Prefab Doors? (Little Guy style)

Postby absolutsnwbrdr » Thu Feb 03, 2011 4:44 pm

Has anyone who has the prefab window/door ever needed to replace their screens?

My dog wanted out of the trailer last year, and the screen was the only thing between him and freedom. Needless to say, I need to replace the one screen and the spline for it. I measured the spline that came from the window and it appears to be 3/32" or .09375"

I've searched, but cant seem to find anything that small. So anyone?

Heres the door, the dog, and the missing screen for reference: (thanks for the pic Paul)

Sorry I can't help with your problem. I'm still waiting for some better weather to really get started on mine. Just wanted to say you have an awesome teardrop. I saw your build thread over on subaruoutback.org last year and it is what got me hooked. Sorry about your screen, I too have a beagle and fear the day he even steps foot inside my finished teardrop.

As the owner of 2 beagles, I too dread putting them in the tear drop. Ialso fear the damage they may cause if I put them outside and they decide they want in. sort of a can't live with them can't live without them situation.
Ignorant doesn't know any better, Stupid knows better but does it anyway.

1/8" (.12 ) is the smallest "standard" splining for storm screens. Are you sure it is not just compressed. Try the 1/8 I bet it will fit !

I put (the kids) inside at night and have been fortunate ( maybe just dumb lucky) but they have never damaged the screening. Your post makes me think I may want to install one of those aluminum guards that are installed on many a storm door. Heck I might be the guilty party with an elbow or leg thru the screen without the guard.

A local glass company will have it. They routinely repair these on RV's. You'll hopefully be able to buy it by the foot.

Thanks guys! Guess I'll try to find some 1/8" spline and compare it to the stuff I pulled off the door, and go from there. I'll do this sometime this week and report back.
