Obviously framed out and supported. My thought was use CPES on it before i start useing it then 1 last coat and paint it.

...thoughts...WEIGHT...and lots of it...I had thought of using it on the interior ceiling after resawing it half it's thickness but decided to go with a sheet of formica instead...
...CPES...keep in mind, it takes at least 3 coats of CPES(and many other sealers) to approach true water proffness/water resistance...I prefer to just use a regular epoxy(I use RAKA's non-blusing version)...you could also use it for glue up...............
...it would look good...BUT, have you considered beadboard ply instead...you can get it in 1/4" sheets and would be a lot easier to work with................

Madjack, with the Raka epoxy, how many coats are you putting on and are you treating the wood first then building the trailer or building the trailer and "painting" it with a coat of epoxy?

deryk, I guess the answer would be...as many as needed/wanted to achieve the look wanted(usually 3...as stated above)...I do as much as possible, including cutting/building/finishing on the worktable...so much easier to work on the horizontal instead of the vertical...I then use the appropriate adhesive when the actual assembly starts( TiteBond/Gorilla Glue/epoxy)...........................

p.s. clarification on the 3 coat thing...when using CPES or other sealers high in volatiles, they leave micro holes as they flash off during the cure process, requiring additional coats to seal those microholes...epoxy will have air bubbles form as it soaks into the substrate, displacing the air in the wood...this requires additional coats to seal up...so no matter what you use, multiple coats will be required...I just prefer epoxy for the total encapsulating nature of the product................mj

Ah, ok then that makes sense as to the multiple coats... I understand the several coats on the ends because it will soak in up the wood's tube/cell's.

Yeah good point about doin as much on sawhorses and tables while its flat and easy to brush. I have epoxy at my storage spot but the CPES I know kinda sinks into the wood. With the Raka does it leave a shiny finish with 3 coats? I did plan on painting my trailer for a final finish.

I'm building a tongue box out of Home Depot t&g cedar. The picture below is how it looks with 2 coats of Raka epoxy and two coats of Emtech 9300 - a UV resistant, varnish-like finish.



It looked just as shiny before the Emtech 9300 with just the epoxy.

...yes it eaves a shiny finish...to paint, just hit it with a scuff pad or fine sandpaper and it will take the paint just fine...I would use a marine topside urethane paint or automotive paint...

I recently discovered the little pyramids like the ones you are using in the photo. They are a great idea for painting projects. Is there any tool you don't have?

Hey Aggie the box looks nice! Ok I guess I will be lightly sanding it cause I want paint for some colour lol.... and haveing some teak on myboat I understand how its always in need of being redone lol

Below is a picture of 1/4" ACX, one is covered with 2 coats of Raka not sanded and the other is 2 coats of Raka sanded with 120 then one coat of topside Petitt marine epoxy paint. I will use 3 coats of Raka then paint with 2 of Petitt if I decide not to go with a aluminun skin.
