Gen- Ben spars. Is pine ok?

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Do the spars actually add much strength? I would think they are more of an attachment point for the inner and outer plywood (curved) skins. Isn't this similar to a laminated side wall, but even stronger because of the curved plywood? What is the top actually supporting? Wouldn't any wood work for the spars?

Hi fellas, you are 100% correct Larry. Walls glued and screwed the length of the floor with galley fitted, they don't add much strength. I am happy to use the pine I bought for the roof spars, that's what's in the plans. But, as poplar was not available, they suggested I use pine spars for the hatch hinge, as they also believed poplar was a softwood, and that's what I ended up buying. It's those spars I was concerned about, I'll buy a suitable hardwood to use. Probably could have explained myself a bit better too! Been trying all day to workout who put the bourbon in the budgies cage.......beats me!!
