Critter, I purchased pre-made aluminium(aluminum) doors that had an external frame as part of the build. It sure made life easier and negated the need for a piano hinge on each door. The only thing was the total cost $> . My next one will have the more traditional door albeit with a frame as you are suggesting but with aluminum. No welding, prefab and plenty of sealant.
Cheers

Critter - Yes, I use 1/16x1x1 tubing to frame the door & trunk. Different, but light, simple & strong. Unfortunately, no detailed photos. Sketches if you want the concept. Fred :snow

the hatch on my trailer will be formed 1"sq tube . also useing it for the roof rafters/spars.I need to keep things "thin" so I'm useing the steel tube instead of wood in these areas.
The difficult we do now... the impossible takes a little longer

I built my whole teardrop out of 1 x 1-inch square tubing (except for the frame itself of course). If you can weld, it is certainly the way to go. My trailer (also with steel sheeting on the outside) could survive a nuclear holocaust.
