A sabre saw is the proper nomenclature. Mine are cheap; used only for very rough cutting. I will use jigs and patterns for the router and table shaper when I want fine detail.

Actually Porter Cable calls them "bayonet saws", but I think everybody knows what a person is talking about if they say "jig saw".

I've got the cheap skil saber saw with a laser in it, I also use the new Makita 10.2V cordless circular saw, it will almost handle 1/4" ply if you go slow, it chews up the batteries though.

Are you satisfied with yours or would you have bought something different? Is a $39 inexpensive Craftsman sufficient? Should I get a scroll saw instead?

Opinions?

I have a DeWalt kit, hammer drill, flashlight and 2 different saws. Bought it new at a local Dewalt store 4 years ago ( I think) it have done 90% of all the work renoing my 1700 foot home. Removed walls, built new walls. put up new drywall in all the rooms. all new sub floors, huge deck out back and a wood fence around the whole back yard... And its still going strong. Never a problem.

Don't have one. Never had a use for one really. But then again I have a ship's bandsaw and can reach 3/4 thru a 4' wide piece of plywood with it.

When tornados come I chain my house to it lol.
