Dean, get some high capacity Ni-MH batteries. You'll never regret it. With my first camera, the 700mAh batteries didn't last nearly as long as an alkaline. Now they have 2200mAh, those will probably last for an entire vacation. I'm really happy with the 1800mAh batteries that I bought a few years back.

The only bad thing with Ni-MH batteries is that they discharge just sitting. They don't have the shelf life of alkalines.

Thanks Rock,
Joanie thinks there is something wrong with my camera, because of how many batteries I go through. I've been buying Duracell Ultra's... made for digital cameras. (It takes 4-AAs)
I went through four or five sets in Hawaii, only about three sets in Mexico.
Sometimes I'm lucky if I get 20 pics out of one set...

20 pics? Yeah there may be something wrong. Even with my old camera I'd get around 50 or 70(without using the screen). My new camera uses a propriatery battery pack, it will last for 100 pics. I which it used plain ole AAs, when on vacation you can buy AAs when you are in a pinch.

I forgot to mention that you can get the Ni-MH batteries pretty much anywhere. I got a second charger at WallyWorld. They have batteries that charge in 15min. Longevity (number of times it can be charged) is reduced but you don't have to wait nearly as long for them to be charged. Regardless of what battery you buy, check the capacity. There are different capacity batteries floating around the shelves at the same time.

That's not untypical alkline battery consumption in digital cameras. Go with a couple sets of 2000-2400 mAh NiMH AAs (I've been happy with both Energizer and a no name brand) and you'll probably get 3-6 times the life out of them.
