Not a tear, but roof coating nevertheless - AES Coatings

Postby stupido » Sat Sep 17, 2011 4:34 pm

Not a tear or a tiny camper. It is the back room of my house. Anyway, thought it might be of interest. Basically, I am going to use an epoxy roof coating directly over plywood. I am using materials from Advanced Epoxy Systems. It is a two part mixed (coating plus activator). It is not particularly cheap but had good reviews. It runs about $72 per gallon. One gallon is supposed to coat 100 sq feet at a 13 mill thickness. Or 200 sq feet at 7 mils thickness.

I figure with the exception of movement, my roof is a much worst environment than a teardrop. So I will post about how it goes on and how well it holds up.

Since my roof deck was rough and had large gaps I elected to use their caulking mix on the joints (AES-300). I am going to coat the entire roof with their white top coat (AES-125).

Today I coated the joints. Tomorrow hopefully I will get the top coat on.

Well tried putting a coat of the AES-125 with mixed results. I used a polyester fabric underlayment on the seams and it soaked way more coating than I thought it would. So I have to buy more.
