We're old tent campers so we went with 12 volt only with a 110 outlet for the battery tender. We have LED lighting, a Fantastic fan/vent, 12 volt plugs for our mattress pad warmer and running little stuff. Everything else is standard camping equipment. Like Debbie said, not much 110 here in the west and besides, we're camping. :D

All the best,

Dave

Storm Warning only has 110v right now two outlets in the galley, three inside, one inside and one galley plug is split from the other half and instead wired into a rotary dimmer switch with push on push off, the inside rope light is plugged into that plug, and the string of campers97133 is plugged into the plug in the galley, they both operate off the same dimmer, located in the center of the roof. When the dimmer is off it has a nice green LED that comes on to help find it and give a night light.
one 110v outlet is located over the wire shelf for the 12v O2cool fans as they operate on a transformer or D cell batteries.
I plan on a 12v system i the future, but didn't need it now. Not many places don't have power in the northeast...

I went with ac and dc and with the addition of a simple care battery you can go no power.

I made most of my lighting so the installation of a auto type socket for the 12 voly dc and a small christmas tree type socket for the 120 ac made my lighting dual purpose.

Slow, I don't think you're at any kind of disadvantage whatsoever by not having a drop cord available. Considering that, in the big scheme of things, electricity is a relatively new invention in the first place, and also that people been going into the woods and camping since forever without any kind of electricty available whatsoever (and doing just fine, thank you very much), I would say that being without electricity is not the be all and end all.
:phew:

Sure it's nice to be able to pop in a dvd on a rainy evening if you happen to be confined to the teardrop, or flip a switch and turn on a bank of floodlights so you can find that contact lens you dropped in the middle of your bunk. But a book and a dry-cell battery or gas operated light will do just fine too. Need music? Take along an iPod. Or if you happen to be camping with a partner, how about talkin' to 'em (or.......)?

We used to camp with a combination of a pop-up and tents when I was a kid (big family) and I don't remember having anything that used electricity. Camping entertainment for us was a croquet set, a badminton set, some horseshoes, good walking shoes, and some fishing poles. No TV, no radio. We had a camp stove and lanterns, no worries. By the time it got dark we were all ready to sleep because we had a lot of playing to do the next day. (We could take a lesson from kids....)

I would say that if you're not going for a duplicate of your living room at home, and if you don't mind roughing it a bit, and can use a little imagination and creativity, you could camp quite comfortably and have a blast 100% of the time with no wired electricity whatsoever. I worried myself crazy for months over how I was going to wire my trailer until I finally started asking myself a different question. Instead of asking how I was going to wire it, and whether or not I would be able to do it, I started asking what I was going to wire it FOR. (I will confess the one thing that gave me pause was giving up the fan.)

Now, I'm certainly not judging anybody who does have all the conveniences of home, including black light and disco ball. If that's what floats your boat, I say go for it!! Because, by God, YOU BUILT THAT (or bought it, whichever the case may be) and nobody else's thoughts or experiences really matter. When it comes to YOUR teardrop, it's all about YOU. All I'm saying is that it's not an automatic foregone conclusion that there HAS TO BE some kind of complicated wiring in order for you to be able to camp comfortably and have a good time in a teardrop.(But, I'm not a total heathen either. I am going to take along the "super simple electrical set up" but I will always be completely prepared to do everything I need to with no cord at all. If I happen to get to use it for something, so be it.)

****Disclaimer - Other's opinions may vary, and that's cool.

I have NO electricity for my teardrop. Everything is battery operated, rechargeable or solar. I do have a solar chargeable "power tower" I could use for emergency power if needed. I have always camped without electricity before I got a teardrop, so I don't even miss it!
I think it is just a matter of opinion, desired amenities, possible medical needs and style of camping. That's what's so great about tear dropping, everyone does it their own way and no one judges.

It is by Goal Zero. I saw them last year at Costco, before I got the tear and thought about getting it for camping and power outages. It wasn't cheap, so I waited. After I got the tear and realized I was going to have many more opportunities to camp, I decided to go for it, but had to wait until the special sales event came around again because it was a much better deal than through their website. The setup that I got is the mid-range and consist of the tower (about the size of a coffee carafe, weighs about 12#) which has an AC110 3 prong, a USB and another output with a 12v adapter. It also has a15watt solar panel for recharging, but can be charged while driving via 12V as well as pre-charged before you leave home. I purchased an extra solar panel for faster charging, but haven't even used the solar to recharge yet as I start out with a full charge. I have only found the need to use it at all on trips longer than 3 days if I decide to charge electronics or need to recharge my battery operated CPAP machine. It really is a perfect solution for me and I like the idea of being able to have a little power during an outage at home in the winter. It's really simple and I don't have extra stuff to worry about not working. My fan is battery operated and my string lights are solar so I'm set!

We don't camp in the same place all the time, like only in Wyoming or only in primitive spots. If a place has electrical then I'll take advantage of it. If not then I'll run off of battery.
