Vinyl siding option?

My wife and I have been heavily considering a 16 ft canned ham build similar to the vintage instructions from science and mechanics in the vintage design library.

One thing that has me struggling in the planning phase is what to do about siding. I have seen smooth (possible filon) skinned canned hams and they just look like they've lost their magic in my opinion vs the original 3" bend aluminum siding but that is so expensive and hard to get around here.

I feel like the trailer needs to have some horizontal lines of some sort to keep with the vintage look, but I just dont know what else my options are. I have scoured google for wood siding on a camper in every form of that description possible and found a couple images, but very little.

Im wondering about vinyl siding like what they use for houses. A more flush sitting siding might look good. Does anyone have a pics of that, suggestions, pro's and cons?

There's a really good example here somewhere of a guy who made his own creased aluminum siding using strip stock and a portable sheetmetal break.

Also there was a guy that did house siding over tyvek, with standing crimp metal roofing.

Perhaps someone has the links handy and will share.

I was actually also considering using 1/2" plywood for the outer wall and ripping 1/4" deep horizontal lines down the side in 3" spacing. I know they make plywood siding similiar but with this technique I would be able to decide on the spacing between rips that looks best for my trailer. Then I could just sand, prime, and paint in many more steps than that describes and I should have some shiny flat artificial siding.

I used western red cedar siding, basically glued to a luan skin. HEAVY!

I used Jeep fender well extensions for my corner molding to cover the lap joint gaps particularly at the front end.

I would suggest triple 4" .

No one had done this that I can remember but there are a couple things I have learned. Use the plastic buttons off of the button cap nails when attaching the nailing strip. I used screws rather than nails so they could be "adjusted" to allow for expansion and contraction movement when I did my home. They also have a vinyl siding sealer, it is similar to clear 100 % silicone ( which should work also) and acts as an adhesive seal but will expand and contract with the material. Some will tell you it will be a problem and will blow off but I say with the technique above they will be proven wrong.
