10 mil poly / house wrap

I was wondering if anyone uses the house wrap or the 10 mil ply on their trailers Whats your opinion on using it???

I considered using house wrap on a 14 foot camper that I built, but I couldn't justify the cost of buying a whole roll for it. There probably aren't enough voids or joints on a teardrop to need an air infiltration barrier. I don't think that I'd use plastic, because it might trap moisture under it.

I am in the process of trying to remover thid house wrap junk so i can reskin a teardrop I bought from the original builder. It is called tyvek or something and it is really hard to get it off. It appeared to help keep a bit of moisture in some areas.

I was talking about this stuff with a construction worker friend of mine the other day and he was telling me that they even siliconed all the seams and around some of the framing to help with the wind blowing through as well as the heat loss said it worked pretty good and kept the Hydro bill nice and low..I guess there is lots of ways of doing things to accomplish the same goals

Was it (Tyvek or eqivalent) glued on? Normal installation it is just stapled and sometimes the seams are taped, but I've not even done that where I have horizonal overlap. It is not meant to be watertight, only to provide a breathable membrane that resists water infiltration but cannot totally prevent it if you have a serious leak.

I used the house wrap on my trailer wihich was covered with steel siding. Before it was on the market I was a regular user of the kraft building paper and before then good old tar paper on sidewalls.

As for plastic or polyethaline sheeting it is sometimes used on interior walls just behind the drywall in lieu of kraft facing on the fibreglass insulation to protect from internally created moisture. I would not use it on the exterior wall.

It was glued on with something that was thick and amber colored reminds me of flooring adhesive, I am almost done fighting it off
