Rubber roofing, just for the roof?

Postby Jack55 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 6:18 am

Is rubber roofing just for the roof? Could it be used to cover the whole exterior???? Would there be any problems? Weight? Cost?

Yes a pain to clean for sure. I remember on my 5th wheel trailer cleaning the rubber roof at least twice a year, Lots of scrubbing...

I actually had thought of using rubber on the roof, but went with white Aluminum...because I will float the Aluminum and the rubber needs adhesive.

Bob what you have will work, you have enough overhang. You may need to fasten just above the door, after that your good to go..

If you do go for an EPDM roof get the residential rather than the RV, it is heavier and you might find a remnant. I have a piece over our galley hinge to keep water out, and get the white.

I know but thanks.....

The membrane went on in November and it was too darn cold to try and get a good stretch on it so I just temporarily cleated it with some thin scrap. It will be stretched the first long hot streak this summer and the cleats will be replaced with dental molding pre drilled and screwed to the 2x8 upper rim. The domed ends will have a filler piece as a layover to trap the membrane behind. Rubber roofing is generally placed over a soft underlayment to avoid puncture and rim secured. I was not aware any adhesive was necessary and an curious what type would stick to foam board without disolving it.
