Full size sketch

Postby Dirke » Thu Mar 14, 2013 2:25 pm

I have been working on my TD plan and have found that a full size sketch has really helped me decide where to put things. I happen to have a nice blank wall (in not a very conspicuous spot) that has worked very well. I have been drawing the whole thing out in pencil and placing things where I think they will go. I have already changed quite a few dimensions as they didn't work like I thought they would "on paper". I imagine you could tape up some large sheets of paper or use a cheap piece of plywood...whatever you had around. They sell white board material in 4x8 sheets that would work too and you could use it again for future plans. Also fun for the kids to draw on....

Hi Dirk, You are so right about seeing your layout full size. Once we had our layout mostly done, I built a full size cabin out of cardboard. We could get inside and see how we liked the space including the cabinet placement. We adjusted a few things after that too.

Cheers,

I built a fort in the living room... seriously. I used chairs, cushions, and one wall to set a perimeter and get a sense of what the space would be like. It may have looked a bit funny but it really helped plan the location of things like reading lights and cabinet positioning, not to mention headroom, knee room, and bed length.

I bet the kids would love doing that! My kids made forts out of the furniture, blankets, even the Christmas presents. Could make for a good winter campout "indoors"!

I bet they would but I don't have any, although my girlfriend says I'm a big kid, does that count?
