Baja Benroy plans?

Postby Gerdo » Sun May 22, 2005 7:09 pm

I am wondering if there are plans including measurements for the "Baja Benroy". It seems like the size, space and shape that I want for my teardrop. Do they exist?

You might want to check out this one, It's very similar to the Baja Benroy and possibly the inspiration for the Baja.

Who built the "Baja Benroy"? I've seen the pictures but I need specifications and measurements.

I'd love to have a set of plans for the Baja Benroy tool! The pictures are nice, but they don't give you any specifics... If the plans are available, I'd pay for a set!

I don't have any plans, but I could draw up the side profile for you pretty quickly. Would that work?

That'd work for me! I'm not planning on making an exact copy... but I definately like the profile, and the measurements would give me a starting place.
Thanks!

Any measurements would be great. Like floor size and height. Thanks

Do you know how much the Baja Benroy weighs? Also the tongue weight? I really like the trailer but I don't know if my tow vehicle could handel it.

The Baja Benroy weighed 1540 pounds dry, with a tongue weight of 325 pounds before putting on the two 20 pound propane bottles.

My tow vehicle was a Jimmy Envoy, and it could barely handle it. The tongue was just too heavy. (The springs on the tow vehicle were rated for 350#)

The Baja Benroy could be a bit lighter... Here's the mistakes I made with that.

1) The trailer was two layers of heavy steel. One would have been enough.

2) The walls were solid 3/4" plywood, they should have been built up with an insulated core.

3) The axle was too far back. It needed to be moved forward

4) 2 huge propane bottles is not necessary. 1 small bottle would have been better.

There are other things that could have been done, but those are the biggies.

What was the measurement on your axle placement and where would you put it if you did it again?

I spent a better part of the evening looking for my 3 ring binder with my Baja Benroy information in it, instead of studying TurboCAD like I should have. But the bad new is, I can't find it.

I might have to reverse engineer the Baja Benroy so I can tell you where the axle and the door locations are.

I'll reverse engineer it using this photo... starting this evening!! ;)

Okay, I reversed engineered it...

Here's the jpg...

and here's the pdf...

Now eariler on, the question was, what would I do if I were to do it again...

The answer is to get as close to the widget axle location as possible... the widget details are on angib's webpage. If you combine the widget axle location and the widget door location with the Baja Benroy profile, you will end up with a much lighter tongue. You'll be looking at something like 160# tongue weight...

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!! :D

Mike...

P.S. Angibs CAD package makes really nice PDF files!!! :tipsy: :awesome:
