What the freak am I doing.

Does anyone ever have that moment in thier build they just sit back and say to them selves or to the world, "WHAT THE HECK I AM DOING!!!!!"

I had that today, looking at my build all the sawdust the unfinshed look of it all and thought Is this really going to turn out ok, will i get laughs from the other kids in the teardrop world. How am I going to fix that mistake, or will that really look nice. I guess some self doubt creeping in. It shall pass I am sure.

The only person in the world it has to please is you ( and yours) .

My tiny trailer is rough and has unfinished edges but you know what , when I am warm and dry inside and listening to the rain on the roof those little things don't matter a lick.

Yes, I felt the same thing about every other week. There were days I was sure it would be a leaky, funny looking pile of aluminum and plywood. So, yes, I understand completely. The one advantage is that I really impressed myself with our finished product.

I still have those moments. My trailer has a flaw that I thought was fixed until the side was screwed down. I decided to live with it.......It's mine and I like it....... Oh yeah and the ply checked and split so it is weird looking. But I like it.

MY GOD... you need counseling for sure. Under normal circumstances I'd have a sympathetic ear for this kind of post, but your album suggests otherwise.

You're off to such a great start I personally think you're nuts.

As a newblet with just one build in the garage, I had those same frets. It's done and has been put to good use.

My sketch pad is half full of new designs.

I definitely had all those thoughts at some point or another! Just keep pushing forward and you'll be happy with what you build. Hell, I still laugh everytime I see mine.

1. Yes, you are crazy. Who in their right mind wants to sleep in a little box on wheels?

2. Why are you doing this to yourself--are you smoking crack or in need of severe physical or mental abuse?

3. People will look like they are laughing, grabbing their chests and pointing their fingers at you when you drive by, that is a given. Two remedies for this: 1)Remove the rear view mirrors from your vehicle so you can't see them after you drive by, and 2) The ones you do see, pretend they are having heart attacks and that someone of better moral character will come to their aid. What do you care? They are laughing at you.

4. The other kids in the teardrop community will laugh at your creation and wonder what you were thinking, but only in their thoughts. You will only get words of encouragement, admiration and praise at what you ave built. Your mother did the same thing the first time you drew a picture, or when you made that macaroni covered and spray painted cigar box for her for Mother's day. Just think of us as kindhearted Mothers (don't go there) that will lie to your face.

5. We have all made those same mistakes, so don't point them out when you look at our trailers.

6. Drink copious amounts of alcohol before critiquing your creation. I'm sure you understand the phrase, "The more you drink, the better they look . . ."

7. Wear ridiculous clothing so nobody will even notice your trailer.

8. Don't park next to me unless you have expensive Scotch to share, and then I will tell everyone what a true craftsman you are.

9. Enjoy your build, whatever the design and level of craftsmanship. It is just another step on the journey to enlightenment (that we are ALL out of our freakin' minds!!!).

I am just trying to keep it family friendly ageless. It is fun to build for sure. I just hope it last a long time.

ALL THE TIME! What's really bad is when the trailer gremlins make "life happen" so that it's impossible to get much trailer work done or when the "Naysayers" getchya down. A couple times, I've had to call or email a friend to talk it out so that I can either get a gentle push or a verbal kick in the pants to "get ’er done!"

As far as mistakes go, if you don't have a few mistakes, you aren't human. Professional builders or people on their 4th or 5th build are expected to know more about what they are doing and to know how to fix their mistakes so that nobody else notices. Those people should not be compared to someone working on their first build.

There is an old saying that one should not criticize his neighbor until he has walked a mile in his moccasins. Nobody can truly do that; so, don't worry about it. If you are on your first build, you are on a doing and learning adventure! Just do the best you can, when you can.

Huh? As if there is a time I DON'T think that? Its constant with me. Why the hell am I doing this? - then my wife reminds me:

1) Because new trailers are $14000.00
2) Because we own a corrolla and a Vibe and don't want to have to buy a different car to pull any other trailer.
3) Because you need something to do and will go crazy if you don't do this.
4) Because we want to go camping and I'm not sleeping in a tent in bear country.

I had that exact emotion a couple of weeks ago! Exactly!! I was looking at my work so far, the plans, back to my work, back to the plans. And it was just sinking in how many ways this could get screwed up.

But then it occured to me how many hiccups, mess-ups and problems I had figger'd out already. You can do it bro. It ain't going to the moon, it's just getting dragged behind your car!!!
