0.40 thick? Isn't that really thick?

I thought it would be more expensive than that. I'm going to check into that stuff for the next build. I'm thinking a 4x8 sheet for the top part of the camper. Black bedliner on the bottom 2 feet. Not sure how I'd do the roof though. I'm looking for pics of campers with polished aluminum sides, but different colored roofs. Heikki (sp?) comes to mind.

Heikki's does look good...done right, the contrasts in textures between bedliner, polished aluminum, and vinyl could be extraordinary!!!

steve

I really like your new build.. that is just neat looking :applause: :applause:

By the way thank you for the kind words on my build. Now if only I can get it done. Ive got some nice ideas rolling in my head for the interior.

About the stainless. Here I found an old inventory of polished stainless which is 0.06 mm and 0.07mm in thickness and it is beautiful stuff.

Ive got 1st dibs on it the owner said if I want it. Right now I cant do but he said he,s not in any hurry to clear it from his warehouse so it,ll be there waiting. Demand is just plain 0 for it so I told him that I know exactly what to do with it dont you worry.

Again I really enjoy your progress.

Thanks!

Sounds like an interesting find with that stainless. Good luck with it!

I'm just about finished with the interior now. All of the construction is done, so now it's just painting all the stuff. I've got the first coat of white on. I've also got the face plates covered in vinyl. Here is what it looks like now:

Image

The plan is to carry the color scheme inside the camper. I have black on the bottom, white on the top, and I'll accent with red. I plan to paint the spars red, red bedding, and red counter top. Here's what I'm thinking:

Image

It's very contemporary. The black on the ceiling will be foam wrapped in black fabric.

Image

It makes sense in my head.

Yup nice looking, good choice. :applause: :applause:

That will look beautiful.  The color scheme of red, black and aluminum or polished is a great combo.

It is. I tried to find it in 0.32 and 5' wide but couldn't locate any. With the 0.40, I decided to using 1/8" baltic birch for the exterior ply to keep weight down.

I think maybe you mean .040"? .40 would be nearly half an inch thick and impossible to bend around any curves.

starleen2 - Nope, no kit. That would be nice though. I started working on the camper 1 week ago, and I'm starting on the body work today. Not bad for one week's work. There have been some 8-10 hour days in there though.

I'm hoping to put it up for sell/auction Sunday Jan. 4th.

 Oops. Four-tenths would be a little hard to bend (and heavy!) It is 0.040.

Steve - Puffin 2 is looking great. Cool color scheme and interior!

Body work begins today. *sigh* I hate body work!

I put about 64 oz. worth of epoxy on the top/sides of the camper last night to seal it. Now I'm going to sand all the seams flush and seal them with epoxy/woodflour mixture. I'll then come back and put some fiberglass tape on top of that.

My epoxy mixing station. I use plastic drinking cups to mix the resin/hardener. I then add wood flour as a filler. I use the largest plastic spreader I have to spread the epoxy. I also use a scrap piece of wood to spread the epoxy and keep it from kicking too soon.

Image
The entry side after filling all gaps and screw holes with epoxy/filler.

Image
Port side (is there port on a camper?) after epoxy/filler.

Image
This is the back of the camper after filling with epoxy/filler. This was the area that had the most filling, but it wasn't bad at all.

Image
The most important part to seal is the roof. The roof is in great shape. I'll sand the epoxy tomorrow and lay some fiberglass tape across all plywood joints. I'll then epoxy the rest of the trailer to seal it and begin fairing the sides. The nice thing about today is I can't do anything until the epoxy dries, so I have the rest of the day to relax!
