No offense meant but I've heard that for years too. I also know what the cost of materials are and what is involved to clear a tear. That's why I learned to paint 30 years ago. That's how most guys price themselves out of the business.
For a street rod or high end car that's gonna get hours of sanding and polishing those kind of prices are expected. For a simple sand and shoot I'd call it high.
But that's just my opinion, of course your location can have a lot to do with it too.

I with you Bodyman, I have been in the body and fender repair business for 30 years. Alot of my custumers would complain about my prices untill they do it themself then they come back and tell me that they didn't realize the cost of materials and all the labor involve into making a nice paint job. Sure you can wash and shoot and it will look like it. We body mens and womans need to make a decent living too!! I too would charge a least a $1000 dollars.

Perhaps this will give you a good idea of what Doug and some others are doing.

I don't remember anything about temperature with clear coat but you can look it up or read the lable. Pretty sure you need to spray it.

If you call around someone might give you a good price to get the attention.

Thanks for everyone's advice. This go around I've decided to stick with a spar varnish. I'm on the home stretch now - seal it all up, install the doors, hatch, windows, fan and latches and it'll be campable!
