on fiber glass cloth is hard to keep wet out it shows the weave it's call print through . dose not like to lay flat and will lift as it cures .Use 3/4 oz mat then cloth then 3/4 mat .As long as it has backing ( wood .foam what ever) and you keep the sun off( paint it ) it will last 15 are more years. If not backed when it that thin it will fell hard but that about 2 layers and it will be full of vibration fractures and delams and in the trash in a few years.

I tried something like that with paint and a painter's dropcloth canvas on the 1st of 3 hatches that I built, only I did not use a foam substrate.

BTW, a large canvas drop cloth can be purchased at HD or Lowes for a few dollars. The canvas is strong.
