Duane,

Maybe try a combination of the peanut stuff that Joane mentioned and the canned spray Great Stuff or a cheaper brand. In some parts of my tear, I used the great stuff (Wal-mart carries Great Stuff and another brand that is less expensive.) I bought the Great Stuff from Lowes and it was $5.96, then I went to Wal-mart and it was $3.$^@$^. I happened to mention that it was cheaper than Lowes when I checked out. The next time that I went to buy it, Wal-mart had gone up a whole $1!. They have another brand in a green can that is cheaper and expands just as well. I have used it and it cuts with a hand saw or a Dremal.

Using a combination things, you might only be out of $50 bucks or so as compared to $225. ...just a thought.

I'd say, 1 can will get sufficient expansion to cover a 24"W x 6" H x 6"Deep. That may be undershooting, if you remember to not saturate one area with too much (When that happens, it doesn't expand well.). Leave room for it to expand.

Buy one can and experiment...and by all means, WEAR GLOVES. This stuff is worse than Gorilla Glue when it comes to getting it off the skin.

I used the Great Stuff on several projects and it really expands.
When hard I took the blade out of my bow saw and used that to cut it leval.
Worked for me!

Lately I have seen contractor sized cans of Great Stuff. It has a different type of valve/ spray head. I think it is cleanable/ reusable. Normally you get just a straw sized stream and it is hard to do a wide flat area. Maybe the contractor can has different spray pattern, but I'm not sure. As far as getting it cut off to the level you want almost anything cuts it, knife, saw, hot wire, sanding. I would say go for it, lots of people will be interested in the results.
