I think I have it. So the metal plate and the clamps are really holding it in place.

Thanks
BILL

The metal plate rides on the back side of the panel holding it in place. When the clamps are tightened, it will end up between the spar and the backside of the panel. The 2x4 butts against the top edge of the panel and pushes it into place as the clamps are tightened. The 3/4" furring strip is used to bottom against the spar and set depth to seat the panel. The aluminum bar keeps it all from twisting.

bending plywood

Postby doug hodder » Tue Jan 25, 2005 10:31 pm

My experience in bending has been mostly with marine grade plywood, but think it would also work on interior, experiment first. I covered the area with towels, and poured boiling water over the area to flex. I did this a couple of times and tested the plywood for flexibility. If it is interior grade glues, check it out and see what happens prior to doing it on an entire sheet. I've done some incredible bending in 2 directions using this technique. this will of course require more sanding on the finish side as the wood grain will be raised. Just don't let it get to the point that it wants to delaminate. Ideally why not use 1/8"? doug
