Winter camping? any one do it? ..below..20

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby BILLYL » Tue Nov 20, 2007 5:52 am

We have several planned this year. The first weekend in December - we go with my son's Boy Scout troop to Sharpsburg and we participate in the Luminar setup. Generally gets down below freezing and the "MOOSE MANSION" stays nice and warm. Like Joe - this maybe the last time since my son completed his Eagle and is awaiting to schedule his board of review.

I enjoy winter camping more then summer time.

Heikki,

I'm interested, but the wife and girls want to go to France. You know, sun
swimmingpool, wine and jeu de boules. I'll see what I can do.[/img]

I camped out in the snow last year. Got down below 20 or so. I had electricity so I plugged in a milk house heater. Wasn't much to do so I watched a couple of movies. The worst part was getting up the driveway in the snow.

Any Ideas on a campground that's open year round. I know Brown County is

Guess I should start a thread in the Midwest section instead of hijacking this one. But I guess we are talking about winter camping

camping in winter

Postby Oregonian » Wed Nov 21, 2007 1:22 am

If I had a 4wd, I would most likely go out in the front yard and set up a dry camp for about an hour, then head for the house. It gets + 20 and then some during our winters sometime. Couple of winters ago we had -20 for a couple of days, that is when I stayed in front of the fire for the entire time.

I go backpacking 2 or 3 times during the winter. I hope to try out the teardrop in the winter after it's built. (sides and bulkhead are up in my Cubby)

Does overnight ice fishing count? I'm building mine so I can catch stinky fish and not freeze while doing it.

I'm still getting the plan together in my head but I will be sure to post a photo when I get there. I just got the modifications to the frame welded on and now I have to borrow a friends heated garage to apply the rust proofing. I'm just starting but I am excited about it!

Thanks Goldcoop! I'm going to get some of my stuff from them! Plus I live in the same town so maybe I can save the shipping charge.
