What Did You Use For Cabin Ceiling Lights?

I looked at those at the Boaters World store and the salesman said they were for accent lighting and wouldn't work as a reading light, otherwise they were my first choice. Danny

I do use them to read with, much to the chagrin of my wife, not superbright and overhead instead of behind. I also have a 12v gooseneck lamp that is supposed to be the reading lamp.

Kinds hard to see in this pic but there is a 110 and 2 12V outlets on the front shelf.

Danny...I have one of those 2 bulb ceiling lamps that can run either 1 or 2 lights for overall lighting, but this little unit works great for a reading light. It swivels/tilts so can direct a spot anywhere for reading. Got it at Camping World. I think it's probably an energy hog, but I liked the look of it and it does put out plenty of light for reading. Doug, those are nice. I saw them at Camping World and I know I'll ram my head into it. Thanks for posting it. I also have the dual ceiling light but found we never use it with the other 4 lights in the cabin. I'll see how the ones I ordered work and get back to this thread. Danny

Can I ask why no one is using regular 12v RV lights? there must be some available? I noticed a lot of these boat lights are very expensive. Just curious.

I used two fluorescents that I tucked into pockets. I wanted to avoid the glare of direct light. The ceiling just kind of glows. Indirect lighting .




But I also wanted reading lights. I put these pucks on independent dimmers. These get used a lot when others are asleep.

I have two downlight style LED light in the ceiling for the majority of my lighting and then two 400mm LED strip lights going into the head storage area. I'm not set on how I'll mount these yet, or exactly where, but these pics give you an idea. They are brighter than they look here and with the colour of the interior they give a warm light, now if the interior was white things would be different.

They were taken at night with the camera set to daylight mode with no flash.

That's it.. It was in the surplus section. Last time I checked, they didn't have any more.

I use the double square black one (they didn't have the chrome one back then). This works great for the interior of the cabin. They provide reading light and also ambiant light and have built in switches. And, the price is right. I just need to find replacement bulbs with LEDs.

Many people find that standard RV lights lack the design character that they are looking for. There is a lot of plastic RV light stuff out there that functions, but lacks the style that marine lights often have. I'm not quite sure why.

$ 5.43 at Menard's lumber pulled out the wick and added a a/c bayonette socket and a 12V reflector light in the chimney above AC and DC under $8.00
