Hey Steve, I geuss if the wind raises your hatch, the springs re-right themselves? That's a pretty good idea I'm gonna have to steal. I like the way it looks, too. Peace, Dave.

Camp-Inn have a very clever near-central single prop:

Wind hasn't been a problem Dave.

Sorry for the hijacking of the thread, I started out making hatch supports out of metal EMT conduit, 1/2" with 3/4" slide supports over it, mine had a close wound spring in the middle. I had a problem sliding up both the support sleeves on each side of the galley at the same time while raising the hatch with my head.

This was a prototype of self leveling shelf system that I was thinking about including in my galley build. You see it in the closed and in 2 opening positions and the full open position. There is absolutely no reason why that self leveling shelf could not rest on a small shelf or cleat built into the galley wall.

Bob,

Now that's what I would call an innovative hatch support system, how about putting a cleat or two under that shelf to see how it holds the hatch up

My galley has the drop down pantry door that becomes a 5' counter top

It was either the stop for the self leveling shelves or the pantry door / counter top and I really wanted the counter for my flip out galley.

The shelf is not in the way in the open position In fact it is real handily located. I am confident that it can easily be made stroung enough to support the hatch. In my case It would have been 3 units all joined at the bottom and swinging on 3/8 all-thread. A back would have been added and perhaps even a sliding door or doors.

Somebody give it a try !

I am starting #3 a 4x9 maybe I can work it into that build if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Just shoot me a PM and I'll tell you where to send the royalty checks. Boat hatch springs like that have been around for decades.

Hi All,

Hey Bobhenry: I'm I following you right....? You're thinking of a drop down self from the galley hatch as having a duel purpose of also being the hatch support?

I love the idea...

Be sure and take plenty of pics. We all want to see. If it had not been "either or " mine would have had this feature. With only 50 sq feet to work with life becomes a series of trade offs in the teardrop world.
