He doesn't do web sales or email so you'd have to depend on a phone call & snail mail. He may send you a bill after the sale if he misquoted the sale by a dollar or two. Don't remember the name but he has a minimum order. Grant doesn't have a minimum (that I know of) so if you could find the striker locally you'd be better off ordering from Grant Whipp. :D Danny[/b]

Postby Danny » Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:50 am

The 55 will look great Danny.. I remember in high school(a long time ago) 55's and 56's were very common. Too bad I didn't pick up a few cheap and store them LOL..

Thanks Danny, I put a short cut to the 55 in my signature line below the teardrop photo. The title says it originally sold for $2,166.00 back in May 1955. :D Danny

It's been awhile since I've posted my progress on #3.
I've concentrated my efforts in the galley lately and it's pretty much done except for installing
the light and gas shocks, gotta remember to order them.

I had some trouble with the locks on the cabin doors so I purchased another pair ($62 down the drain) from a new to me seller and they close like they should, with a nice "click".
I might send the bad ones to Vintique to show that they need to control their quality better.

I really like the laminate on this teardrop it looks very nice with the curly Silver Maple trim and Canary wood doors and drawers.
There's enough room under the stove tray for a couple pans, waffle iron and several 1 pound propane bottles.
Tomorrow I'll concentrate on installing tail lights, license plate light and high stop/clearance/turn light. :D Danny

Very nice work Danny. I really like the design of your teardrop, and your craftsmanship is top notch.

I'm glad you mentioned the gas struts. That is something I need to think about pretty soon on my build. By the way, I saved your pictures on the bracket you made for the high-mounted 3rd brake light and will be "borrowing" your detail.

I'm happy to help in my small way to keep you as safe as possible, Borrow away.
Get the light with the brake, clearance & blinkers they really make your teardrop more visible. :D Thanks, Danny

Today I decided this teardrop is complete.
I have interior & exterior window trim to make for our new windows on the house.
The next thing is to get the state inspection and order the mattress. :D Danny

Thanks Doug, I'm really happy with the addition of the 55 Chevy re-pop SS molding on the sides.

Makes this one a little more unique from my other ones.

How did you secure the side trim, kind of thought something along those lines to cover some screws on #2.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

I used the clips for that particular trim. I cut the studs short, epoxied the clips to the trim and then super glued some aluminum strips between them. Put 3M VHB tape on the aluminum strips. Drilled holes for the studs in the teardrop sides and epoxied them to the holes using sticks pressed against something solid. The VHB tape helps hold it all together while the glue sets up. Used black silicone to seal up any gaps and to protect it from the elements. It took a lot of time & about $150 in materials to get it just right. The trim is permanent now. :D Danny
