I used the L handle shown below:



with the lockset that has an interior thumb latch:



If you use something like this, remember to get one right-hand lockset and one left hand. The handles are all the same.

I'm looking for a lockset for a 1-inch thick door and it seems like the one you describe here is almost right. Apparently, a door knob or door handle can only be inserted on one side. Is that correct?

Lastly, when looking at the door and seeing the hinges on the right hand side, should the lockset for the left hand side be a LH or RH? It is easy for me to interpret these codes either way. Heck, I generally got less than 50% correct on True/False exams, too.

Welcome to the forum! The handles and latches I used could be used either way, there is nothing keeping you from putting a LH latch on a RH door, the latch would just be upside down. Picture the latch I posted flipped upside down so the latch portion is facing left and you'll see what I mean.

By interior thumb latch, I really mean a tiny (hence "thumb") handle on the inside so you can get out. Compare the pics...57RH has a little handle, 58RH doesn't. 57 is meant for an application where you don't have the need to open it from the inside.

The RH version shown in my post would be the one you want if you're talking about the curbside door of your Compact, assuming you have it correctly hinged at the front. In other words, looking at it from the outside, if your hinges are on the right and latch on the left, you would want the RH version. The photo I posted is showing the latch as it will appear on the inside of the trailer.

I've changed my mind 4 times so far and haven't been happy with anything. The ones at Lowes that Aggie79 shows the picture of turned out to be a bit of a problem because things could get hooked on that outside handle style. I just ordered these:

I like that the latch is separate from the lock and that it doesn't stick out very far. Also there isn't anything on the outside to catch or hook things on. They'll be here by the end of the week. Hopefully, I'll like them. There isn't much else other than what has been discussed in this thread.

The inside latches have a substantial handle built in for opening the door from the inside and they have the ability to be locked from the inside in case you need/want that extra bit of security.

Generally, when looking at the door from the outside, if the hinge is on the right hand side, then you need a right hand inside latch (left hand side, then left hand latch).

Something else to consider ...
