Thanx to El Nino; we are having a fairly mild winter. All the storms going south

I was on my way to buy some "j" molding in the area,, they told me about 2 dlls per foot.. so aprox 80.00 in total..
really close to this rv store, there is a metal suplier and I tought, maybe I should take a look at the aluminum and do it my self...

I end up buying 50 ft of angle,, at $18.00 total!!! that was cheap!!

2.00 dlls a ft VS 2.00 dlls a pound.... It's not rocket science...

will post some new pics as soon as I start working on it .

thanks all for the help.

Hi Rusty, I am particularly interested on your experiment with the angle. Please keep us updated. What dimension did you buy? Could you take a little photo, end on?
Kind Regards, BigAl.

As promised, here are some pics of the trim molding that I end up using.
I cut 1/2" on one side of the angle for it to be more flexible,, it was kinda of scary to cut aluminum for the first time... but after some sweat bending it to shape and being so careful not to kink it, I think I got it right.

(I actually did kink it once...) :x

It does not have the seal yet.

also wanted to share what I did with the Marine hinge for the doors. I have seen some posted here, but did not like the idea of being so accesible to remove the pin and have acces to remove the door.. I used some SS bolt and nut, got it tight enough for the hinge not to have so much play,, a couple of sprays with WD40 and it worked out really good...

Thanks.

Save the money.

I have to agree with Gage. My project has been stop and go because I have had to wait until the next payday. Operating on a very limited budget. It has taken me two years of working just in the summer but I think I am ready to finish this spring. It's hard to be patient, especially when you want to use it to join in the fun. I think in the long run it will be worth it.

Just to let you know what I'm using. I'm using painted wood to cover seams and aluminum to cover corners. If you have sharp bends, LittleBear has the soft aluminum that bends well. The shipping was thirty bucks but he packages really nice in a PVC tube/pipe. If you do order, don't make the same mistake that I made. Be sure and order enough to do the job.  He is very good about combining shipping. The aluminum is not expensive at all, it's like you said. The shipping is what gets ya.

Oh well, just my two cents worth. May not even be worth that. :?
Have a great day and hoping the weather is great no matter where you are!!!

Signed, Me

Good job Rusty! What was the gage of the angle that you used? Does anybody have thoughts on it being possible to pre-heat the angle to make it easier to bend without kinking?
Kind Regards, BigAl.
