I mentioned on here somewhere that I am in the process of making 2 dutch oven carrying bags.

I purchased a pair of 38 and 44 waist heavy denim bluejeans at goodwill.

why 38 --- 3.1417 x 12" = 37.7 , The circumference of a 12" dutch oven

The other is for my 14"

My buddy steve has an upholstry shop and in 10 seconds he can sew the legs shut across the crotch and I will cut off and remove the remaining legs below. Turn the jean "Sack" right side out and add heavy cord thru the belt loops for a draw string.

Ta dah a dutch oven tote sack ! :thumbsup:

Wonder what I could use the legs for if
I sewed the rough end shut :thinking:

I'm ahead of ya Auntie M .....

I never seem to get those silly camp chairs back in the sleves they come with , so the camp crane frame and accessories slides down in one and has since the day we built it.

But you are absolutely correct THEN I would have a matching set :lol:

HUM? Charcoal storage !

Not a bad idea just line with a plastic bag to eliminate the dust. Would be easy to pour out of
( unlike the paper bad that always rips and dumps half of the contents).
Just put a heavy hem in the open end and insert a draw cord just like my sweat pants :thumbsup:

THE DUTCH OVEN TOTE SACK !

Image

Here is my buddy Steve,the mad upholster , helping out a friend on yet another crazy project

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image
Here is the trio a cover for my 12" my 14" and a left over leg sewn shut at the bottom and hemmed for a draw string to tote the charcoal in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Image

Our only design mistake!! This was the 1st tote and we cut thru the crotch of the jeans and by the time he had rolled a hem inside it was too shallow for my standard 12" D.O. but I have a 10" chicken frier that seals with a 10" lodge camp oven lid so it is often used with a stand as a shallow D.O. so I used the "Mistake" for it, fits great [well kinda].

Please don't giggle girls you will embarass Mr. Skillet.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a little better shot of the charcoal tote
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And a shot of the 14" tote.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All the dutchovens were placed with the lid on the bottom with the handle up and the d.o. was sat on top to prevent the legs from puncturing the material.
Total cost for 3 bags and 4 charcoal tote sacks $8.56 for the used jeans
One note on the tote sacks
I assumed diameter times pi (3.1417) This math works but you have to unsnap and perhaps even unzip to fit the ovens in.
I did not allow in the math for the ears and the bail which add a bit to the diameter. They 12" does fit in the 38 waist jeans and the 14" does fit in the 44 waist jeans but one size up would allow you to insert the oven without undoing the fly.
:shock: What a good idea! I never would have thought to use old jeans for a DO bag. Thanks to whoever thought of it. I'm gonna have to steal the idea.
About 3 weeks ago it crept into my dreams somewhere around 3 AM !!!!
:roll:
I had to give it a try. Should keep the soot, oil, and ash contained in the totes and off of bedding and upholstery. When they are too soiled just give then a quick soap and water bath in a bucket or if SHE ain't looking maybe a quick load through the washer.
Pockets will come in handy as well for a waterproof match safe and a chore boy scrubbing pad or maybe a couple scotchbrite pads.
Thought for today " No one can "steal" what is freely given.
So you are most welcome to the idea !
O.K. Got it Bobhenry, I'm going to borrow your idea. Hey I have an idea for you. You can keep a spare set of keys for your vehicle in the pockets also. :lol: :R
