It seems that the Mormon Church has told their people to have a years supply of food and water on hand for emergencies and they have information on how to make up a 72 hour survival kit to carry in your car. I'll have to ask about it. Seem like a good idea.

You can buy a 3 day Emergency Preparedness Kit from the Red Cross.
