Never gave any thought to matching the tow vehicle to the trailer but almost all my trailers have the same 5 x 4/12 bolt pattern and I have several sets of 12" 13" 14" and 15" wheels/tires I can use interchangably (e.g., my current log cabin build will ride on 15" but right now its on the 12" so I can get it out of the garage when I'm finished.)

Whey I say all my trailers I usually have 10-12 for various purposes - 3 campers, 2 boats, 2 tools/work, 1 for large and long building materials, 1 for trash, and 2-3 I've picked up cheap for future use or sale/trade.

Here's another source for hubs with various bolt circles. All the above mentioned cautions about rim offsets and center hole diameters still apply, but this will give you an idea about what is available on the market. You could probably purchase axles with whatever hub pattern you need, or just order a new set of hubs/drums as needed.

For now I'm designing for the same tire/wheel as my 4Runner and 4x4 Pickup use. I'm also making the track width the same. I'm doing this because I'm designing it for fire trail/road type use. If It wasn't for that use, I'd likely go for a large thin trailer tire to keep the rolling resistance down.
