Legal?
Not sure what you're asking...
Is it "legally" a teardrop, well, don't know.
Is it legal to be on the road, not yet.
The Ohio plate is/was to aid in mounting the license bracket and light.
I'll be replacing it before we start camping, probably get a 47, or 48 plate, not sure which state, but probably New Mexico as it has a neat design and color.
I'll have the "real" modern plate and registration with me.
May not be legal, but it looks a lot better, and until I get in trouble...

Here in Ontario (Canada) when we register a trailer we get a new plate and that's it for the life of the trailer.. never have to renew every year. I don't know about where you live, but if you found an old plate from your state, and they no longer had it registered to anyone, they may let you reregister it under your name. It's worth a try, and your'e right, it would look koool..... ;)

Greetings from Colorado!

Great idea and execution! I did something similar with The Lost Teardrop. As you, I felt that the hatch was too large and cumbersome, so I split it in two. The bottom hatch seals against a 1" X 1" angle iron brace that runs the width of the trailer under the shelf. It is secured in place by two drop in elevator bolts [flat head] that go through the shelf and into the frame of the lower hatch. The top hatch sits on these bolts securing them in place. The top hatch secures with two spring loaded hood catches, miltary style. No locks. If they want something, take it. I spent WAY too much time to have someone damage the hatch by prying off locks....

It is amazing how useful the 6" X 60" shelf is while working in the galley!

I am working on a teardrop design for my daughter and grandchildren. Rounded tail like the Cub/Modernistic and your approach would blend into the design like it was intended to be there. THANKS for the idea!
