Looks good Steve. Can't wait to see it in person. However, based on your history, you may not have it long enough for me to see it!

NightCap - Lisa has most of the vacation pics. I only have a few, but I have some video. If I have time, I'll try to get some screen caps off the video tonight. The rated PG stuff anyways. ;)

As for comments - we got one at a gas station. Not many people in the parks at all this time of year during the week.

This camping stuff is hard work

SteveH - Yeah, I think I'll hold onto this one for awhile. My first one was a great learning experience, but there is no way Lisa and I would have survived in it for a week. We actually did quite well in the new one. I know it sounds silly, but having that small dropped floor area makes all the difference for me. It's also nice having the raised bed so we can hang our legs off the bed while eating. I'm quite happy with it.

She had her coffee maker on the counter with the TV. I had my thermocooler on the middle storage area which made getting cokes/water really handy while in bed. The bathroom worked great on those cold nights.

I also saw my first porcupine. It came down a tree in our campsite and walked down a creek. :o

I started working on the interior today, but I didn't get much done. I installed a shelf in the back above the bed. It actually doubles as another spar, as my spar spacing was 48" at the back. Now I have a spar every 24".

I tried my sponge paint (texture) inside today and I'm happy with the result. I'm going to do the entire inside sponge textured, but the door trim, bathroom door, and front TV shelves (not built yet) will be black. I also put some black material behind the cutouts in my storage areas to hide conduit, and to clean up the look of the camper. I think it looks sharp.

Here's a couple of pics w/o the flash. I started with flat black painted first. Then I sponged beige. Then I finished by sponging white.

Image
The black material behind the cutouts is stapled at the top so it hides all the junk (conduit, food, light, etc.) from view. Since it's stapled at the top, I can just reach in and grab what I want and it falls back into place.

Image
The spar running behind the puffin is actually a shelf. It's only about 4 or 5" wide, but plenty wide to put my glasses, watch, etc. I'm not sure how how the shelf is, but I can sleep under it.

The curtains are temporary. I'll sew up some nice ones later.

I also came up with an awning idea tonight. I'll probably work on that tomorrow as well.

Image
A picture with the flash on. You can see the fabric behind the cutouts when the flash fires. You can't see it in normal light.

Steve,
I guess I need to get on the forum a little more often. I totally missed this thread. I had noticed you were back on here and building. Saw your pics in one of the gathering pics of davel's. Looks great. Can't wait to see in person. Hopefully we will make a couple of gatherings around here this year.
Great job. I know you and Lisa will really enjoy............

Couple of gatherings this year? We better get busy!

Thanks for the compliments. I still have a lot of little things to do, but it's campable now.

The last I'd heard was that Lisa had seen the Coca-Cola Tear for sale in Lufkin, and I saw some pics of your new rig in Minden. Very cool. That your keeper, or you have plans for yet another?

Nice hearing from you guys, take care.

Are you going to paint a puffin on the outside of your TTT or keep the stuffed puffin on the inside? That thing has a lot of colors and must have been quite the labor of love sewing it together. Keep up the good work on your TTT, it has been fun to watch.

Steve, Coca Cola was sold to some Coca Cola collectors near Texarkana.
No the black tear with flames is not the keeper. Charles is planning to start another soon. I'll keep it's uniqueness a secret untill he gets started and I can post pics.

Actually, I probably won't do either. The Puffin was just a name that stuck - the stuffed puffin was a gift. It's quite large and takes up a lot of room, so it'll just stay at home.

Wow, I bet it's going to be something else!

We had some great weather yesterday, so I packed up and hit the park. I went to Brazos Bend, and it was full! I couldn't believe it, I didn't think anyone went camping on Christmas. I got the last site - I think it was a cancellation.

At night I had a little masked visitor show up. Not sure of his intentions, but I don't think it was to say hello.

Image

I spent the day mountain biking around the trails. I ran across this little dog, but he wasn't friendly at all.

Image
Everytime I tried to pet him, he'd just growl. I'm guessing 5-6 feet long. I finally gave up trying to pet him and continued riding.

Image
They have new RV pads. The things are huge - I could have fit 10 of my campers in there.

On the way to fuel up, someone pulled into the gas station and started asking me about the camper. He asked me if I wanted to sell it. I told him no. He asked me if I would build him one. I said no. I gave him the mikenchell address, so maybe he'll be joining soon.

A couple at the park came over and looked at it too.

I still need to enclose the front of the camper to hide the trailer frame, and I need to do the same at the rear to tie it into the sides. The weather is supposed to get really windy and rainy so I'll probably work on the interior today, and I also want to get the awning started. I hope to have it back at the park this weekend with a painted interior and awning.

Lisa just called and asked for me to meet her at Huntsville SP. I told her I needed a break from camping, all this relaxing was wearing me out. :)

Ok, a few more pics of stuff I've done today. I got the black basecoat put on the interior last night, and I just finished sponging the beige & white on the walls. The interior paint is pretty much done except for touch-up and trim work.

I picked up my tile for the counter top and the floor as well. I'll probably do that tomorrow. I still have to sew the curtains. *sigh* Interior work is tedious. I'm off to town to get some material to make my awning. That should be much more fun than putting down the floor.

Image
It looks like Hugh Hefner's pajamas exploded! The bathroom door is black, as is the roof. I'm going to pick up some black satin sheets too.

Image
I should have cleaned up the counter before taking the pic. Anyways, it's a pretty basic paintjob. I still have to build a TV shelf above the counter too. All corners get finished out in black trim - very contemporary look.

To complete the exterior of the camper I have $900.31 tied up in it. So far on the interior I have:

electrical, paint, toilet, foam mattress, & misc bring the grand total to: $1,147.85.

I went over my $1,000 budget, but not by much. That's also including the cost of my awning which I just picked up the materials for tonight.

Well, I now have an awning.

Sorry for the bad picture. I'll get a better one this weekend - going camping Sunday.

I have to get some eyebolts tomorrow to replace the screwdrivers I have slipped into the grommets at the legs and some black paint to paint the conduit.

I used 1/2" EMT conduit legs and 3/4" EMT conduit main bar that slips onto two clothesline hooks that are mounted to the camper. Material is 10oz. white canvas. Really easy project, and I think the added shade will help.

Next project is to add a rack on the back of the camper to haul my trike. I'll be able to take my mountain bike and my street trike. WooHoo! Lots of toys.
