Nephew's senior project!!

Well Folks, We got it done enough to take it on the maiden voyage for the first day of trout season here in PA. Started at 7:30 in the morning Friday building the door and finished wiring the lights at 5pm followed by departure at 5:30. Towed it just over 100 miles to a state forest campground at Hicks Run PA. Trailered very well with no issues. Could use a bit more tongue weight but not a problem. Nephew slept in it Friday night and said it was cold BUT it was dry with no leaks!!

Still tons of finish work to do including interior wiring of lights , converter etc. but we at least go it out on the maiden voyage!! Here are the latest pics!

Thanks for the kind words! Nephew did not take any pics but the wife and I went to the same spot to fish from Monday to Wednesday. The pics are of myself and my fishing buddy!! He had more fun than we did!!

Did not find a heater but thanks to one of those -10 sleeping bags the nephew's second night in the camper was very warm and sweaty!!

Towed it home today so the finish work can begin !!

Sam, you know the "Communist State of Pennsylvania"!! If they see that dog "fishing" you can bet next year there will be a license fee!!

After spending over $60 for the wife and my own license I would probably just give it up if the dog gets "taxed" too!!

Just figured I would update ya'll on the status of his project. After the maiden voyage he was required to submit his project for grading. Submission of the project did not require having it inspected by the teacher, his only requirement was to submit a binder with photos etc. of the project from start to finish.

The project was worth 50 points and the passing grade would be a 33. After reviewng the project bider photos etc. he was rewarded for his effort and time with a whopping 32 points which amounts to a failing grade !!!

This prompted a trip to the school with the camper in tow and a discussion with the teacher. It was explained that it is not always PRACTICAL to grade the project by actually seeing in and the grade is based on the binder.

I politely explained my views on that utterly ridiculous policy/train of thought and mentioned that he needed to come out to the parking lot to see the actual project.

Within 30 seconds of seeing the actual camper he wisely changed his views and agreed to re-evaluate the project. It should be noted that the Nephew did not put 100% inot the binder BUT the end result of his physical work far exceeded any shortcomings in the binder.

The re-vamped binder has been submitted today and I'll update this eveniong when I get the word!!

If I understand you correctly,some one can built a project that is substandard in workmanship but turns in a nice looking binder he will get a better grade than your nephew?How does that make sense to his teacher or is it just me?

I looked back over your album. Well I guess if the goal was to encourage kids to get out and see the country (not) and if the teacher enjoyed fishing and hunting........

The verdict is in: After reconsideration the failing grade of a 32 has been recinded and he has been rewarded with a 41!!

Score one for the good guys!!

OK, all's well that ends well... Great build! I think its ludicrous that the initial grade would be so low. One of the guys I work with is always doing projects for his "A+" kid. I work in a machining/sheetmetal fabrication plant. This week I watched a guy spend an entire 2 days building, modifying, and tweaking a project for his kid's school project. It was a new "revolutionary skateboard" that he spent 16ish hours on at work; paid. What teacher would look at a "kid's project" that consists of pieces that are TIG welded, laminated, tapped/screwed, together from CNC machined/laser cut aluminum/lexan pieces and assume the 8 year old kid did it himself. Have I lost it or is this the way things are now? Granted, I think every parent should help their children anyway they can. We can see the effort put in by your nephew on this project, and the end result looks great! The grade change was a good thing but he deserved an A+ for sure. He has all the makings of being a great fabricator someday. Can't wait to see what's next!
