Hi Guys,

Thought I heard my name being called.... I was wondering, has anyone used a hinge from pickup truck topper, (camper) manufacturing, you know, the one one the back hatch. The ones I've had always did that sliding sidways trick and would misalign like the "hurricane hinge". Problem solved by putting a small screw in the outer extrusion, but that's another story. I was interested if anyone had found a source for that type of hinge? I never could find a source for them... seemed that they come in colors and are smaller than a hurricane hinge, thought they might be cheaper too....

Steve - haven't come unhinged yet :D

Steve, I had the same thought and tried and tried and tried and kept coming up with the same answer...NO. What I was told was that the hinge is made for the industry specifically and not sold elsewhere...I tried several cap dealers to see if they could order one and was told no...I really don't believe that but it is what I was told...more than once from more than one dealer...basically said they couldn't get 'em, which makes no sense to me...but hey whatcha gonna do...slap the guy upside the head and call 'em a liar...all that does is end in a trip to the local country club :?  ;)

Jack & Steve,
 I did the same thing and kept coming up goose eggs!
I wanted something anodized and Grant didn't have that...
There is a thread here somewhere about anodizing your own stuff...
As of right now, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do... I'm looking at concealed trunk type hinges with a gutter system around the inside perimeter of the hatch opening, but time woes might make me consider just going with one of Grant's hinges and paint.
I'll know more as I get into the woodworking side of things later on this winter...

I wonder if the topper place where I bought my windows would have hinges. They don't have e-mail or a website, I'll have to dig up their number and call them.

While we are discussing hinges...has anyone got a source for the double hinges used to mount an entry and screen door together like most modern RVs. Thanks

Re: I like Pemko hinges myself..

Check out http://www.pemko.com and click on products, pemko hinges.
While made of aluminum, and not steel, I can guarantee you they are strong enough and then some.

A Pemko hinge will hold up a storefront door, I use them all the time for that. They are much stronger than anything else in our industry. They will not rust, and they will last literally forever. Well, ok nothing is forever but, I have pemko hinges still in use that I installed more than ten years ago.

Thanks for this, I was planning on a PemkoHinge as I can order it locally in Victoria BC. Harder to get the hurricane hinge and seems way better, which from your comments is now confirmed. A bit more $, but worth it I think. Do you have a suggestion as to which style to use for the galley hatch? I'm thinking the the Full Mortise CFM or the half surface CHS with the surface part on the trailer and mortise on the hatch (maybe better water seal that way?)

Thanks, Doug
