Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm excited. My profile pattern arrived from Grant today along with his suggestions for the chassis. After work tomorrow, I'm going to tape the profile up on the garage and have a look. Time to go stock up on bandaids and rent that router video.

I also found some new window fuzzy strips ( $1.50) at a local glass shop to replace the worn out ones in my salvaged windows. Progress is being made. I only need to find two little plastic springs to finish the window rebuild. Sure hope they don't leak when I'm finished.

Some shop hints

Keep your camera handy!

Wear gloves when checking out the smoothness of your plywood cut.

Stack wood in neat even rows that can't jump out and get you.

NEVER stack wood near the place where you hang your circular saw blades.

Do not cut really small pieces of wood on the table saw. They jump back at you or go sailing across the yard.

#1 check to see if your tetnus shot is up to date.

Eeeegaaads!. That is not a very comforting picture.
I spoke with my welder of choice today and am now really happy to start the chassis. The welder actually listened to me talk about what I wanted to build and knew all about tongue weights and axle placement rules of thumb...way more comforting than that fingerless photo. I am to bring wheels, tires, axle, fenders and all connecting stuff. He will provide the steel and will cut and weld it. I get to direct...sort of a teardrop chassis general contractor. I'll wave my arms (and fingers) around from a safe distance and the chassis will miraculously appear. This is sounding like a good plan. If I were to do the welding, I'd have to go take a class at the community college, investigate everything until my head and the heads of all my family and friends fell off. I'd also have to invest in welding and first aid equipment. It makes more sense to have a pro do this part of the build.

We must be related. Actually there are a lot of us here. We're just teasing so have fun directing and when the wood parts comes....It's just a box. That's my brother-in-laws advice. Helpful huh!

Truly it is just a box with a lota parts that need a lotta advice.

It sure is true about needing advice, Miriam. I am starting to think about how I will attach the wiring to the chassis and the chassis to the car. I do not have a clue about such things but have rewired a lamp (the house is still standing). This is a start. I will no doubt be venturing back and forth between electrical and chassis forums and the library and trailer lots and pestering everyone about how drilling a hole there will weaken a steel stength here and how stringing a wire here will short out something there.
I'm very grateful to have this patient forum to answer endless questions and to share experiences. No wonder there are so many dutch oven recipes. By the time a trailer is finished, everyone involved must be hungry for a very long time.
