Cut Down salvage RV door & screen??

It looks to me like it would be pretty easy to take a standard RV door, screen, & frame assembly and cut it down to a shorter height. Has anyone done this?

I originally considered this plan for my standing height mega tear to replace the Chalet. In that case I would have cut less than 1' off the bottom so the latch wouldn't need to move. Now I'm looking at more of a standard sized trailer with 4' sidewalls so the door would be cut way down. The latch would be remounted.

Thanks

Hi Jim,

I cut one down for a teardrop a few years ago, very easy.
No screen on it, but they are easy to modify as well.

I've never cut one down, but I did take one apart and re-build it once, without too much trouble. I don't see why you couldn't cut it down, unless the corners of the frame are welded, then you might have to find someone to re-weld them.

I cut down an aluminum screen to fit a window and it was easy to do with a hack saw. Just be sure to remove the corner pieces that hold the screen segments together. If you have rusted screws that are stuck, I've heard that coke works good to loosen them, but haven't tried it myself. I have friends who are boat owners and they always keep a can of coke on hand to loosen stuck metal screws. Good luck!
