Fiberglass Reinforced Wall Panel

I am researching to build a teardrop camper for the first time. I have chose to build the Benroy from Mike Schneider plans. My question is how good would it be to use "Fiberglass Reinforced Wall Panels" from Lows to put on the side and roof.

Several people have used it, but I would worry about UV damage. Most of it is not designed to be used outside. I know that I have left a few scraps laying outside after a project, and they deteriorate after a while. If you coated it with a UV protector, or stored it inside when not using it, it would probably be fine.

Personally I wouldn't use it, but then, your not me.

I don't see any problem using FRP board. If it ever starts to look bad, you can just paint it using the same type of primer & paint they use for plastic bumpers on cars. At about $30. a sheet... Less than a buck a sq ft. It costs about a third as aluminum around here.

Here's a UV stable, impact resistant Fiberglass Reinforced Sheet that comes in sizes up to 5' X 20', and it glows in the dark. How about it? A teardrop you can't loose in the dark no matter how much Crown & pickle juice you have put away.

I have FRP on my TD , It is not painted. It has been sitting outside for over 1 year & I have seen no change in the finish. It still shines when I wash it , I even had it under a cherry tree & it was covered in cherry pits & bird crap this summer . I washed it & it was just fine. It does not seem to be brittle or damaged in any way . I will continue to give reports on it as time goes by. I will post some p[ics when I find them. Just my 2 sense !

I used it as the ceiling in my TD. I like it because it was real easy to work with and conformed to the surface nicely. I also used it in the galley.

Not sure what type of fiberglass walls/roof I have, but it has a layered paper backing. It's rigid enough to withstand the curvature of the TD ends with minimal structure behind it. However, with little water the backing warps and some discoloration appears on the front.
So if you are using this type of 'fiberglass' sheeting, then I suggest you treat the backing for water penetration.

I found some stuff today at a really cool salvage place in East Bend N.C.
it was 4X8 sheets of bendable mirror.Anybody seen or used any of this stuff.

No , I haven't seen or used these things but...I envision folks looking for a little "nightlife" in their camper putting them on the ceiling, and finding that they have built more of a "funhouse" than they anticipated!...
