Sorry folks....its me again. I noticed with those that have built woodys, a lot of you have gone with aluminum roofs. Is there a technical reason for this or for the look.

I havn't even finished the floor yet on my first one and I'm allready thinking about my next one! :D I think I'm going to do a Rimple, and for that I think that an aluminum skin would look really cool, kinda like a miniature Airstream, (I still don't have that out of my mind since I have one). The next one will prolly be a woodie, both styles look so cool. 8) So many choices, so little wood.

Can you tell us more about the aluminum colored vinyl that you used on your Tear Drop? Thanks.

I went with the Aluminum as well. I just think it was a more even look, and easier.

Jim,

That is interesting material. I sure do like the looks of it on a tear.

Just shows that there are a LOT of materials out there we haven't tried yet?!

Dave, if you go back and look at most of the old plans, they say to cover with fabric, dope it and paint it..so vinyl is an improvement on that I think.

PS..I didn't come up with the Idea..Warpony did.

If (a big if) I build again, I'm going to go fabric (not canvas) and "paint" of some sort.

Maybe I can keep my sanity and NOT build again.

Jim, I haven't been able to be on here as much in the last 6 months or so. So I have missed this idea. How is it attached to the roof and what have you used as a trim along the edge to prevent wind from penitrating under it????
By the way it looks great !!!!!!

Steve,
I used spray adhesive..the good stuff..for most of the main roof, and half way down the hatch, but from there, knowing how the wind pulls up on the hatch from previous canvas experience, I used tite-bond 3 on the bottom 2 feet of hatch..
on the main roof, I used ΒΌ inch aluminum angle screwed on with stainless steel screws..the hatch, I folded un the edges and stapled with stainless steel staples.
It came out pretty good I think.
