I just now opened my other Kit fender for the 1st time.. I unwrapped it and my surprise was that I noticed a chip or 2 with hairline cracks on it in the front bottom edge ..

Now it could have come from anywhere being moved from place to place
or it could have come from shipping..or is it a defect from the fabricator. Ok in either case its not so bad it cant be fixed.. And it is fiberglass.

However I have never repaired such and I would really like some advice how to go about doing it other than taking it to a professional here..

Can I do it here at home and if so how do I start...

I can take photos of it as well if need be.

Yes they are the Kit Fiberglass fenders..

are the crack all the way Thu are you going to paint them .If there gel do you have extra to match pic will help it a very ease fix

Thats right Black Gel Coat... Let me put some pics.. give me a few minutes... They feel real soft in some parts of these areas..It appears its not all the way thru, meaning the cracks.. One is just very deep..

Garsh this is sad in my opinion.. But ok I havent needed them yet though... and I just now noticed it.. the other fender is just fine..

I do plan on painting them.. what color ? I dont know as of yet..
But I just wouldnt want this section to be left in case it cracks off totally..it seems to have spider web like cracks also..

Ok Im no expert but its just my worry if it may or may not do so..

in side pic if it soft is it that the reins never setup are it in just the gel

In spots it feels like a soft brush.... seems like I can move it back and forth in a small spot as well ..

So it was taken off too early from the mold then?

Let me get an inside photo of it ...back in a few..

Here is the inside.. also I just noticed too that on the outside its cracked in a half dollar like area... then when I look inside its cracked there too and no gel in that area..

Heikki...those look to be some pretty serious cracks(can't really tell in pic)...over here, you can goto most any hardware or box store and get a "fiberglass kit" which contains a yard of FG cloth and the appropriate resin/hardner combination...what ever you have available to you over there, I would glass up the back side...depending on how serious the cracks are, you may have to also sand down the outside and reglass but I will leave that advice to someone with more glass experience than I.....

Heikki, I agree with Madjack. Now for the soft spots you may have air bubbles in the fiberglass (fender), you will have to grind down to expose the air pockets then fill with glass matting. I hope this helps you.

If you look at this photo and the photo of the outside .. the crack covers that entire area in white...If I were to send it back it would be a high buck shipping..

So yes we do have all kinds of fiberglass available same company stuff as you have there... but in my opinion it could be a badly made fender too right from the beginning.. It seems like its missing gelcoat or fiberglass on the inside...but ok ... I wont say because Im no expert..

Manufacturing defect???? Contact the person you bought them from and see what he can do..

Or you can take them to a place that does fiberglassing and let them fix them up proper......

Sad as it is ... I highly doubt anything can be done since Im so far away..
