no dumb cabinet questions right?

A few framing questions

I have a 56" high by 72 (slightly wider) wide flat wall on the inside bulkhead. What I would really like to do is make a set of sliding doors, one set on top of the counter and one below and in the center. The doors need to slide from the middle to the outside.

I don't have a dado but I think I can use the metal strips. Do I just make hangers for the strips going all the way across then make a face frame? How thick? The rest of the wall should be closed in (not clear on how to manage that either) except the bottom passenger side, which is where the airconditioner will sit.

I hope I am not too confusing here. :worship:
Thanks for all the help.

Miriam,

Here's how I designed the sliding doors in the weekender.

For the tracks, you could either buy the corner molding at home depot, or build it up from 2 strips of wood.

Miriam,

I bought some aluminum tracks to make mine with at ACE hardware. They had them is several sizes (for different door thicknesses). Sorry, but I don't have it finished yet, so can't post pictures.

Miriam there are lots of ways to make a chanel for sliding doors without a dado router table or table saw comto mind if all if you don't have either of these or can't barrow one maybe you can rent a dado at a local rental center.just a thought, I made ours with a table saw not a very good pic but all I got

This is what I used:

I used the plastic track.
The doors slide great on the plastic track.
I used it in the galley and inside the tear.
The galley doors bypass each other.
Here is a picture of the galley before the trim was installed to cover the track:

I made a face frame. I mounted the track to the frame then covered it with trim.

Here is a picture of the interior cabinets:

My interior doors do not bypass each other.
I mounted them on the same track.
You can only open one at a time.
This allowed me to trim out the face of the doors.
I think they look better than the flat panels in my galley.
They both side to the middle.

Here is a link for the track:

 Thank you all so much. Those are great ideas. I will get to it, I guess if one doesn't work I will go for the other. 8) This is certainly a learning experience.

Everytime I think I got is someone gives me a new idea and I have to turn the brain on again.
