Hi- after about 30 minutes of searching.....can someone point me to where to find a pair of mechanical hatch struts - not gas struts - for locking the hatch in the open position. I've seen 'em a bunch of times, but i haven't had enough coffee to find them this morning. :? ..Help!

Thanks for the links, but I am looking for folding struts that kind of look like drawer slides except they fold in half to close and lock open.
I'll keep looking!

Something like these?

SUPPORT STAYS

There a Canadian company, since I'm in Canada but they ship all over, and with the exchange might be cheaper than buying them in the US, depending on where you are.

And teardropdroptrailers.net carries them;

You can check http://www.spdhardware.com/ to get the part number, then go down to NAPA to order them. If you have my luck, they won't be in stock.

I'm looking for two of these (with the coil springs). Are there any currently being produced? Otherwise, does anyone have two that they'd sell?

Thanks.

When useing the folding struts. How easy is it for one person to unlock them and lower the hatch at the sametime?
:thinking:

Kurt,

Those are the hatch supports that came on my original 1937 Thims trailer, I'm not aware of anyone reproducing them. Aside from the spring, it shouldn't be too difficult to duplicate them.

:thinking:

Jst83,

They unlock quite easily by grabbing them both just below the springs at the same time and pulling them rearward, just be sure to have padding on top of your head. :lol:
My hatch is light enough that it's not hard to close after unlocking the supports.
