Has anyone built prehung doors to pop into the framing of an insulated woody? I was thinking it might be more convenient to work on and fit. Remember...there are no stupid question...

Dave, I was planning to do just that when I do get around to building my tear. I though to myself why not build my door just like a house door, I though it be easy that way.

So long as I was doing a framed side, I just thought that it would be easier for me to work on it in my limited space and get it right. Scares me a bit to get my framing, the door seal trim, the windows set, and getting the hinges just so with what I have planned!!! I'm a horrible carpenter and every step is a challenge!!!! For me, working with littler pieces lets me focus a bit better. Thanks!!!

If you can get a door the right size, and if it fits in your budget, there is no reason to be a hero and make your own.

In my case, I made my own, because I didn't have any money and the door was a unique size.

I built my doors just like my walls. I used 1" insulation in the walls with 1/4" on each side. I even used exterior door locks. The hinge is from So-Cal. Real simple. If you can build the rest of the tear the doors are easy.

Since mine is a woody I am putting the framing overhanging the door opening with the weather stripping on the back of framing.

I still have a ways to go, but you can see what I mean. Good Luck!
